Usually Backline Technicians are specialised in specific instruments for performances. So you could have a range of people on stand by for if an incident occurs with something like a synth stops working, or a guitar string breaks.

As an example you would have a backline technician specialised in drums for that performance, so they would build the drum kit for the drum player, and keep strong communication with the drummer as if something happens to the drums, the drummer needs to tell the backline technician to he can fix it straight away.

This can occur during a performance to the backline technician needs to be always ready to fix anything that goes wrong during the performance.

Sometimes each backline technician is assigned to an artist to work with throughout a performance, or one backline technician has to be flexible and work with multiply artists.

Usually a qualification in music tech is really important because you need to be up to date with a lot of modern technically instruments like synths.
